I have seen Charlotte crack down on Prostitutes but has done nothing newsworthy on it growing escort problem. The only difference is one works the streets the other works the phone or web.
If you believe different than you are naive of what is going out there.

I would post links but due to complaince with the TOS some of the profiles that appear after you punch in google female escorts, Charlotte or male escorts Charlotte; the graphics are unsuitable for this site

You might be thinking what is wrong with two consenting adults? Many are not paying a sales tax or income tax like the rest of us therefore they are committing illegal activity. Very well could be your son or daughter looking for a way to earn quick cash or could be the ones they are dating without you or them knowing about it.

Be aware in the upbringing of your children in correct moral values not just relating to self love of their body but in the dating scene as well. In addition be aware if you are in the single scene.

So far to date of the month of May for 2008 here the following reported cases from the CDC in the Mecklenburg region

AIDS 39 CASES
Chlamydia 1802 cases
Gonorrhea 915 cases
Nongonococcal Urethritis 243 cases

Since it only the middle of year and you presume that the ones infected stay in the area or move into the area and double those numbers and this does not include all communable diseases that are out there just the large number of cases in Mecklenburg that would bring the possible total for 2008 to 2999 male and female residents with an STD and this is just for one year and only the reported cases.

Sunny, that is stunning. I don't think most of us, as parents, would even think about such a thing . . . yet we know from national cases that have been spotlighted that college students do get sucked into this scene. I guess we always think it couldn't be OUR child, but the facts are - these are SOMEONE'S kids. Scary thought.

As for STDs, chlamydia can be asymptomatic . . . and it is estimated that as many as 1 out of 5 students on any college campus may be infected w/ chlamydia.

"It is estimated that as many as 2.8 million cases of chlamydia occur every year in the United States. Left untreated, the disease, which often has no symptoms, can lead to serious health problems, including pelvic inflammatory disease, which can in turn lead to infertility and ectopic pregnancy. In addition, women infected with chlamydia are up to five times more likely to become infected with HIV."

Day 2 - 2006 STD Conference Media Release -

Thanks for the reminder . . . we all THINK we know what our kids are doing . . .

If you're going to look at this from a legal standpoint, I would focus on the illegality of the act of sex for money itself, more than the fact that they dont pay taxes. Society's laws are based on ethics, and what is perceived to be right or wrong. That being said, the majority of people feel that sex for money is immoral- hence the reason for the law. The same could be said for any "crime"- drug use is illegal because people believe it is ethically wrong.

If I were the parent of a college aged child, I would be more concerned about the more prevelant acts of sexual deviance. Things like multiple partners and homosexual/bisexual experimentation have yielded a far higher percentage of sexually transmitted disease than teenagers running an escort service.

I completely concur that nothing can replace a strong set of ethical values, and their instillation upon your children. It is incredibly important to have open communication with your hildren in regards to things that concern you.

I actually disagree. People are going to partake in this activity; this is the world's oldest profession so it isn't going to stop. If you take the evidence from the Bunny Ranch in Reno where it is legal and they practice safe sex and the girls are checked weekly for certain diseases and monthly for others, there hasn't been one case of a STD in 10 years. Similarly, countries with needle exchange programs for drug addicts have a much lower rate of HIV among IV drug users.

Sunny if my boys were escorts then I'd like to know why they keep calling us up asking us for money.

It's fine to disagree, but usually people provide a reason for disagreeing!

And sometimes its best just to keep quiet and not start a disagreement...right?

Diseases do not discriminate between Straight/Bisexual/Homosexual.

Also, new HIV cases could have been people exposed a few years ago.

You are absolutely correct- they dont! But, it is undeniable that those specific risk factors have been linked to significant increased risk. And, I'm sure a candid interview of any college population would reveal far more "experimentation" then escort services.
