Are any posters recently from Portland, OR? I am moving to Charlotte soon and my family is going from a double income to a single income. We are bringing a lot of equity with us from our home sale, but other than housing costs, how do costs and taxes compare with Oregon, i.e. groceries, car insurance, utilities, etc? I'm already dreading having to pay sales tax and pump my own gas

Well if you are going to one income I would use that equity and put ALOT down into a house so you don't have to worry about mortgage...don't upgrade a house toooo much from what you were living in previously..I think that happens to a lot and remember what you were making there and living on..may end up being a little less here if you are living in a 500000 house but really can't afford that type of mortgage but can because of equity you don't want to be house poor b/c of yard and utilities! We live on one income but we don't have a 3000 sq ft house, we do have nice things and live in a nice neighborhood and are comfortable and htat is what matter..figure out whatyou need vs what you want.
I do think it is cheaper here than OR though..I haven't really researched the pacific nw though.
