Usually gyms run specials a few times a year where they waive the joining fees -- does anyone know if that's true for the YMCA in Charlotte (any branch)? I would assume it's sometime in late summer/early fall (August? September?), then again in January and maybe in the late spring/early summer?
I'd like to join ASAP and there's no info about these deals on the website, even on each branch's individual web pages. I'm willing to hold out until I can save myself the hundred bucks or whatever it is...if anyone knows if and when these special free enrollment times are at the Charlotte Y, let me know!
You can join any of the YMCA"S as a program member at anytime.
You pay a fee of around $20 and what you qualifiy for is all services but at the program member price.
So if a dues paying member where to pay let's say $75 per month for a class, you might have to pay $95. You just need to decide if paying registration fees and the monthly dues is a bigger cost saving for you.
You remain a program member for an enitre year from the date you paid for the fee and can enjoy all that the Y has to offer, just at a higher price.
If you can't afford the membership fee then the Y can waive it. If you can afford the membership fee then please support the Y by paying it. They do a lot of good for a lot of people.
It's possibly that they might offer one in August, but it's been a long time since I was a Y member. Planet Fitness was $10 a month so that's where we joined after we left the Y.
Call them and ask or look at their website. They are free flowing with information. Also depending on where you work they might offer a discount on the joiners fee and monthly members.
I know the YMCA waives the joining fee in January and April; not sure about the fall. The JCC also has a nice gym and waives the fee at least once a year, I'm thinking either January or April or maybe both. I'm pretty sure it mirrored the Y's time.
Can you work out in the gym and use the childcare with that $20?
Thanks,
Dawn

No. Program membership is only good for activities and classes. Have to be a full member for the gym and childcare.
