I received a letter today from Duke about this plan....It costs approx $11 a month more than my average electric bill. It would be approx $90 a month and my current average is $79 a month. Do any of you use this plan? Are you satisfied with it? Do you think it's worthwhile? I like the idea of the same price every month. Thanks

Been using it for several years. It really is nice to not have some big huge bill jump out at you after a heat wave in July or August, or an ice storm in December or January

Yep. I always ask for a budgeted plan for any utilities (we get it for our electricity and gas).

I have had it for years in other states - as others said, it's great to be able to budget the same am't each month and not have a huge bill in the hottest or coldest weather! They send you a summary every month with your statement so you can see how it's going, like $95 balance or $25 debit, etc.

They tried that with me, but they wanted me to pay $300/month. I told them to stick it.

I was persuaded by a friend before moving to join the rate plan. I'm happy that obliged, my bill was $90 monthly. I made one year here and they just lowered it to $78. I guess I was utilizing enough energy. They were great at crediting my account for not using the energy. I won't have to pay a bill for aobut three months.

IMO its a great thing. Life is complicated enough...why create aggravation of uneven bills when you can do this?

I guess I don't see the value in doing this. If your "average" bill is $79.00 why would you want to pay $90.00 consistently for the entire year?

I plan for my "spikes" when the weather gets warmer. I tend to think that they make money on this somehow. I kind of like the $50.00 bills in the winter also....it gives me more money to spend on Christmas presents!

Duke has two plans equal payment plan and a fixed payment plan.

With the equal payment I think they take the 12 month average and divide by 11 and that is your EPP. Any overage or shortage is taken care of at certain times of the year or maybe even annually. The fixed payment plan is where Duke has your usage history and says OK sign up for this and your power bill will be $XX.00's for the next 12 months, if you go over or under you do not pay more or get a credit. I have used both. Currently I am on EPP. I have two accounts on one I have a $88 credit and the other I am $115 in the hole. For me EPP works as my heating unit in one apartment is very inefficient and my winter bills are kind of high so its nice to average it out. Piedmont Gas used to offer such a plan but I always ended up owing a lot of money when it came time to settle up.
