I will be staying one night in Charlotte,(Wed), at the Courtyard Marriot City Center at 237 S. Tryon Street. I'm looking for the best restaurant within walking distance...any kind of food, upscale, nice bar or wine list, good ambience-not too loud. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations.

You could also try Aquavina Aquavina- Innovative Contemporary Seafood

Also, the Capital Grille Capital Grille Charlotte Steakhouse Steak House Restaurant Grill

or Mortons Morton's :: Charlotte (Uptown).

I enjoyed Arpa...if you like a nice wine list and a tappas menu.

Dolce is supposed to be excellent, if you are looking for Italian. Both are in walking distance of the Courtyard.

Across the street is a very nice, fairly new Ruth's Chris steakhouse, and just a little ways down within close walking distance is McCormick and Schmick's, seafood, also fairly new.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!!! Keep 'em coming! I'm hoping to get to downtown Charlotte more often on business and it's usually just one night stays.

I'm also hoping to get there more often on pleasure trips (whitewater park) and I like good food!

Ratcliffe on the Green is the best we've been to in Charlotte. Neat building too, circa 1928 flower shop. Food is "farm to table", really well done and terrific service. It's basically on Tryon between 1st and 2nd.

When I go to new cities, I like to try local places and avoid chains, and Charlotte seems to have a lot of chain restaurants uptown. But fortunately there are a lot of good local places too!

Aside from a few places others have mentioned, my husband and I had a great dinner at Latorre's a couple of months ago. It's also within walking distance.

Thanks. I also prefer local places but sometimes opt for the chains just for convenience and because sometimes the local places are harder to find. Thats why I'm happy to have found this forum!
