The article says 30-40% would be relocated employees, so it is still "the majority" going to Charlotteans. They probably would have lost their jobs otherwise so it would be ridiculous to assume that much less than that number would be relocated.
It will still add jobs and bring people to the Charlotte area that have jobs. Those added people will be a bonus to the area since they are moving with jobs.
"30-40%" may be relocations. That leaves 780-910 new jobs for Charlotteans. On top of the 390-520 relocating that will be spending their money and paying tax in Charlotte.
I can only think of 1 reason why some people (no one in this thread specifically) tries to pick this apart so much.

I can't think of any reason to not be glad about the jobs, except that evidently a lot of concessions were made in order to get MetLife here.
I personally think it is wonderful . . . houses to be sold! And that keeps our tax base healthy, too.
Plus, I think MetLife will be a great addition to the business community.
I'm not sure what is surprising about this. It sounds like the typical re-location to me. In fact the # relocated is a little on the low side. They must be taking the opportunity to do some house cleaning.
Not if NC just subsidized 1,300 new homes in Indian Land...
390-520 would be relocations, not all of the 1300. Even if all of them were to go to Indian Land or Fort Mill--which isn't likely--they will still be spending money in NC.
I was about to post the same article. Although it's always good to get new companies here & to welcome new folks, it is a bit disheartening that more jobs will not be offered locally. Our labor market is pretty tight & sure could have used the boost!
