Until any ex-NY'ers show up I'll tell you the biggest thing people seem to mention most regretting is that they can't get their whole extended families to move with them.

A lot of them either take grief for leaving "home" or just plain really miss all the extended family get togethers they were used to having and now can't.

No regrets here. We moved from Long Island just over 2 years ago.

No regrets from me (Long Island), but I can tell you that loves is correct... People also tend to romanticize the "good ole days".

You need to reconcile the distance from family and friends before you move to ensure there's any chance of avoiding regret.

P.S. Why Charlotte?

Moved to NC from NY 14 years ago. While far from ideal, it beats living there on all fronts.

Moved from L.I. to Union County over 30 years ago and have only one regret.

I wish I had picked a place a little further from Charlotte and more towards Stanly County. Mainly because this isn't country anymore and it seems like it is becoming more and more like the north and what I tried to escape.

Other than that............ I would never move back to the north. Don't even like visiting there and I limit those trips to about one every 5 years.

If I move again, it would be to the southwest. Native American country!

But, I will probably stay here. Getting up in age, still have a job, grans are here and really not the time to try to sell a house.

Domicile in Forest Hills Queens myself and own a home in Charlotte.I think your question is too subjective and can only be answered by you telling us why the move from Queens and what are you expecting from Charlotte.

So, talk to us and I'm sure we'll lead you to mass confusion. lol

We lived in Forest Hills when we were first married, then Long Island...moved in 1998. My parents followed us 6 months later. We absolutely love it here, was the best thing we did for our family.

I will say, (as I warn all relocating New Yorkers) that if you have to be in a big city, and will miss the things that New York City has to offer then Charlotte is probably not the place for you.
