Hello,

My wife and I are looking to relocate to Charlotte but I am curious about the job market for Network Admins\Engineers.

A few weeks ago I posted my resume on several job sites and selected Charlotte as the only area I'm interested in. I received so many calls from the Omaha area (where I currently live) the first week that I changed my searchable settings. I have sent my resume to a couple recruiters in Charlotte but I haven't had any results. I have several years experience in the industry, a Comp Info Sys Bachelor's degree, an MCSE and will have a CCNA within the next couple of months. I have a few questions:
1. Is it really hard to get a Sys Admin in Charlotte if you don't live in the metro area?
2. What IT certifications and experience are in demand?
3. Are there any recruiters you would recommend?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Default I have the same issue

Hi,
we are going to relocate to Charlotte this July from Los Angeles via Houston and I have noticed the same. It seems companies and recruiters prefer local candidates only since they are afraid to pay for relocation.
I also have noticed Raleigh has a more developed IT sector but in our case, we like Charlotte better.
I am a network/desktop support with MCSE,CNA but am hoping to be luckier when we physically move.
If anybody has similar issues and knows local agents, please advise.
Thanks!

It's helpful to know that others are in the same boat as I am. I wish you well in your Charlotte job hunt.

Thanks.

Have you submitted your resume to Robert Half's IT department? I know they do a lot of technical placement here. You should also take a look at computerjobs.com and look to see whats available in Charlotte.

I'm not making light of it, but everybody and their brother has a MCSE these days. With all those technology schools like EPI... it just doesn't mean what it did 5-10 years ago.

Getting your CCNA will be a help, but I'm sure you know CCIE is the "golden ticket". My friend has it, and he was the lead engineer for consolidating Wachovia's and First Union's network when they merged a few years ago. The company he works for is Dimension Data and they are quite large. You may consider trying to contact them directly.
