Searching for a new cell phone plan for the 5 of us. Alltel seems to have a good plan and phones the kids like (very important to them). I am not familiar with the company at all as I have had AT&T for many years. If you have Alltel, are you pleased with them overall as far as dropped calls, dead zones, customer service, etc...

I have had Alltel for 2 years now. I travel all over the U.S. (about 6-7,000 miles per month) and 98%+ of the time the service is great. In some areas, like rural Virginia, etc, dropped calls seem more often, but for around here in the Charlotte area, service is good. I recently got a wireless internet card from them for my laptop and it, also, is great service. I have no complaints about Alltel, other than I wish they had better deals on phones for existing customers.

The last I heard, Alltel is scheduled to be bought by Verizon Wireless by the end of 2008.

Is that a good thing or bad thing?

I think it will be good, as long as Alltel teaches Verizon something about customer service. I used to have Verizon, and their CS service skills were way behind Alltel's. The network will be HUGE after the buyout/merger.

From a consumer's point-of-view, who knows? The acquisition will make Verizon Wireless the largest cell phone company in the U.S., stripping AT&T of that title.

We just switched to Alltel a couple of months ago and so far we are very happy with the service - their My Circle plan is great - last month we had 2,136 minutes that would have cost us a fortune without it - well worth the $85/month we pay for two phones. And because of the My Circle we have no problem with going over our minutes.

Default Sun com changed to t-mobile

Try T-mobile , I have been a customer for 6 years. great customer service. when I relocated here they gave me alot free minutes extra. to help me out with the move. since I only was using there basic plan.

well anyway I highly recommend T-mobile

Like PeytonC the only problems I have are in rural areas. My Circle is great! They also have My Circle messaging packages. That could save you money if your kids are big texters.
