A couple of weeks ago I'm stuck in my cheap hotel room on a rainy nite without a dinner date and no car.I was staying at the Sleep Inn in the University area. At day's end the people I was with asked me to join them but I just wasn't in the mood at the moment. But now at about 7:30 I'm getting hungry so I go downstairs , step outside and see my two choices. To my left Shoney's and to my right Bojangles.I absolutely no desire to it in either one in spite of the rain. I see off in the distance a Holiday Inn that I think I can walk to.
First off I thin k I can walk out the back parking lot of the hotel. Large fence no exit. Walk to the curb and see that the Holiday Inn is separated by the BOA parking lot. Ok, I'll do that. No way as there is no exit thru the lot. Can't see how I can get to HI without getting hit by a car or soaking wet from the rain.Start to return to hotel to re-group and look into Shoney and repeat my mantra"There's no way I'm eating in there tonite."
I re-group and decide to walk to the right, and past Bojangles. (repeat my mantra for Bojangles). Walk about a quarter of a mile without seeing a place I can eat in. There seems to be a place across the hiway but decide my life is worth more than the hunger I have and don't want to cross this thoughofare in the rain.
Return to front of hotel and look at Shoney's like one looks at the ugly girl at the dance standing in the corner --but you haven't danced either.
Try the breakfast skillets. I like the Santa Fe one. Pretty good. Don't like it enough to do it more than once a week. We need to keep the ole tickers healthy.
In college, there was a Shoney's at the entrance to my apartments. They took credit cards. Shoney's kept me from starving many months. Doesn't mean I still go back though.
