Is this the right place to post? Seems like it might be closer than the Winston Salem-Greensboro forum.

Anyway, looks like a job offer for DH may be coming for a move to that area. One critical thing we must have is high speed internet (I work from home running online forums as well as an online retail business). I don't want to assume that everywhere has high speed access over there. Is this a concern if we are looking at houses in the areas mentioned in the title?

I'd like to hear opinions about nice areas. We are a 50-ish couple, 8-10 years to retirement with 2 Goldens. We enjoy outdoors & water; looking for a nice spacious ranch home with at least 2500 sq ft. (gotta have a basement) and a bit of land (1-2 acres is more than enough).

We've had enough suburban development living and would like something semi-rural but close enough to drive to conveniences. We're pretty laid back, and I am personally delighted at the prospect of getting back south of the MD line being a GRITS by birth.

Welcome to the area. Yes, this is the correct forum for the towns listed. And that's a good thing too, because I've found the Charlotte forum to be one of the best as far as people willing to share help and good advice.

We're in Mooresville and enjoy it here. Although basements are not very common in this area, we do enjoy high speed internet. I'd be lost without it as well!

As far as land goes, most subdivisions seem to be built with very little land on each lot. Are you going subdivision or buying your acreage and building on it?

Hi Stripes,
We don't plan to build, but wouldn't be adverse to looking at new construction that's ready to move in. Generally, we're drawn to homes outside developments with mature landscaping and just a bit of space at least in the backyard. I have been using a browse feature in Yahoo Real Estate for 25 miles around Cleveland, since that's where he would be working.

I see plenty of basements in the Salisbury listings, but as you said not so many in the Mooresville area. Guess proximity to the lakes has something to do with that, perhaps.

Good to know I stumbled into the correct forum - thank you

Hi, If your husband will be working in Cleveland, look into the area of Bear Poplar,China Grove,Atwell township,Amity Hill Community. There are tons of rural areas near Cleveland with nice resales or new construction available. All within reasonable driving distances to shopping and also Lake Norman or High Rock Lake. A good realtor can help point you in the right direction!
