I am fairly new to the Charlotte area (relocated from Buffalo, NY in May 08) and am looking to shift gears and pursue public accounting.
I am still very early in my career (graduated college 3 yrs ago) and have worked in corporate accounting since graduation. I have put the time into passing both the CPA and CMA exam and am now looking to break into the public accounting world. Any suggestions or resources out there to help with this search?
This is something I've wanted for a long time now and since my current role with my company is becoming increasingly boring and a lack of a challenge, I would like to take this step now. Problem is - how is a young professional supposed to get exposure/experience to public accounting if almost every firm requires some degree of public experience? I am willing to take a pay cut in order to get a solid opportunity - just need that initial chance to prove my value, even if it's in a more staff level position...
First thing i can cay is good luck! My recommendation is to apply directly to some accounting firms. Don't worry too much about the experience. Believe me your experience in corporate accounting will not be overlooked. I'm actually coming from NYC and have just found employment after looking for 2 months.
If you or anyone else is looking, I have CPA firms all over the country looking for talented Auditors and Tax Accountants. My email is jcopeland@mriz.net
