I thought I'd post this. We received an e-mail from the CMPD the other day because we signed up for the Community Watch program. It's good information for everyone though. We live in a Ballantyne Community, off of Johnston Rd.

In the month of October we saw a notable decrease in Larceny from Auto’s as compared to last year in our response area. However, we (meaning the Police and the residents) still have some work to do to further decrease the number of Larceny from Auto’s that are occurring. We are having a high number of incidents where residents are leaving Laptops, I-PODs, GPS units, digital cameras, purses, and wallets in their vehicles over night. With these high end items left in vehicles, we are having windows smashed and the items taken.

Based on the reports that we are getting, the neighborhoods of Provincetowne, Cady Lake, Reavencrest, Parks Farm, and Southbrook have all been hit, with most of them occurring during the first half of the month. Our current trend is leading us to the neighborhoods in the Southern most portion of the response area, ie, Bridgehampton, Copper Ridge, Kenilworth/Amberleigh, Westin Glenn, Maple Crest, and Kingsley. They are not getting into a lot of vehicles each night, maybe one or two, but they are coming back to those neighborhoods and hitting them again.

If you are getting this e-mail that means that you reside in one of the areas where we are focusing our attention and need you help. Please remind the residents of your neighborhood to take ALL valuables out of their vehicles at night (including garage remotes), secure their vehicles, keep your garage doors closed, and call 911 to report suspicious behavior.

You're talking about the people that are leaving their cars outside with valuables? Or the crooks?
