Hello Charlotte!

I have admired your city from afar (Denver to be precise) for a while now, although I have never actually been there.... I have FINALLY convinced my hubby to come out sometime in late May/Early June to look around in the hopes of him falling in love and giving the OK for a move.

My husband has been in the flooring installation business for over 16 years, and has lived in Denver his whole life. He is very nervous about moving (the whole unknown thing is a bit scary to him), isn't sure what the job market is like in his line of work, and is concerned about being able to provide for us there, like he has done here. We have no idea where to really start.

If there is anyone in the construction field, who would have any helpful information as far as The top flooring companies (he does residential & commercial) in the Charlotte area I would SO appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!!!

Terri in Denver

The housing market is still blowing out here, unlike many other areas of the country. Your husband would have no problem at all providing for your family. I hope you have luck with your "convincing him" trip!

Yep - Habla Espanol? If so, there might be good opportunity leading a construction crew available. Flooring is a little more specialized than basic carpentry though, so there may be more opportunities.

Ya, there is alot of that in the Denver area as well....but not so much in the flooring industry. He does alot of specialty work in tile. And also has an associates in commercial (Forbo)flooring, will be going for his master mechanic (most likely) before we would arrive there. Most people who need that sort of thing done, are willing to pay a bit extra for it. I am trying to get him to step into the management end of it though. This type of work is really hard on your body-especially the knees, and I don't want him doing it for too much longer. He would have to take a pay cut though at first, and that scares him.

I really appreciate the input from you guys! Thanks a bunch!!

Terri

I myself also work in the flooring installation business. I live in sothern MI. I think If you are a good installer people will pay top dollar almost anywhere. With the recent (much needed) material cost increase. More people are not going to want some hack messing it up. I think quality is making a comeback for our industry and all others. Maybe you should get your husband a pair of ProKnees for christmas! THey just came out with the 1" foam I bet he would like those. My wife and I are also looking a western NC. What all kinds of flooring does he install?
