My wife and I are planning to move from NYC -> Charlotte...

Winding Walk (Shea Homes), in Cabbarus county, is on the top of our list.

Does anyone have negative/positive experiences living in this community?
Any red flags while dealing with Shea builders?
Please share.

Thanks in advance.

We are first time home-owners. One would be surprised by how little we know about buying homes.

I like the neighborhood. I have had a few clients show some interest there but never commited.

Have you explored the area? There maybe something lurking another neighborhood down.

If you need any help please let me know.

Thanks,

To be extremely honest, my wife and I made only a couple of visits to the area and we could not spot anything out of the ordinary. But that could be because we do not know where to look.

Down the road, from the community, is a fitness center and Winding Walk itself, is sandwiched between 2 great (golf) communities.

Since price is a factor, Winding Walk seemed like a good choice. But maybe we dont know enough.

Thanks for the words of caution. I will dig some more.

I am not saying its a bad neighborhood. I was just trying to make a point that the other neighborhoods around such as Highland Creek and Skybrook are just as nice and to make sure there were other options.

Let me know should you need any help.

Good Luck!

We considered a house with Shea in Winding Walk. Ultimately we bought in Highland Creek which is right around the corner- but this wasn't because of the neighborhood or the builder...it was because we have a short timeframe of moving. Shea is ranked very highly, and seemed to be a good builder to us! The area you are looking in is nice, and well situated between 85 & 77 and close to shopping, the University, etc. I don't think you guys were "missing anything" out of the ordinary or any negatives

Winding Walk seems like a nice neighborhood, and since it is all Shea Homes, it will be tightly controlled as far as appearance of the houses that are built. They are building a nice community, and I think it would be a good choice.

I would advise getting an agent such as CharlotteAgent who can give you a hand with the process. He is a great guy and right in that area, so he knows it really well. Even if you are dealing with a builder directly, you NEED to have someone on your side to negotiate and to watch out for the process. We didn't in our first home buy, and I won't do that again!! Definitely get an agent before you talk to the builder!!

Good luck to you your wife!

Anita

Have you tried Skybrook North (Pulte homes)?THe houses are very reasonably priced and built beautifully. Both the communities take the same amt of time from highways. Before making your decision, you may want to have a look at that community.
