I'm planning my first trip to Charlotte and am trying to find some hotels that are nice/clean and not extremely expensive. I would like something that is in a part of town where you can walk to a variety of restaurants, shops and bars (not really clubs).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorrry, I guess that doesn't help much and now that I think about it, it could vary a lot from one person to the next.

No more than $150 a night. Thanks

Okay, now you're talking

I like the Hampton Inn - Uptown
530 East 2nd Street
Charlotte, NC 28202
(704) 373-0917

You can get in there in that price range

I also like this one, and it's on the free shuttle line going around uptown
The Westin
601 S College St
Charlotte, NC 28202

Also, if you want to try something non-chain and pretty classy, look into
Dunhill Hotel - Uptown
237 N Tryon St
Charlotte, NC 28202

Another great choice is:

Hampton Inn & Suites
6700 Phillips Place Court, Charlotte, NC, US, 28210

It is right beside Phillips Place- a beautiful shopping/dining/entertainment area in the residential part of south Charlotte. There is a PF Changs, Restoration Hardware, Dean & Deluca, Upstream Restaurant, Wine Bar, SMith & Hawkins, The Palm Restaurnant, Multi-plex cinema and lots more. It is not a mall- it is shops on bottom, condos on top with trees & fountains along a sidewalk. Very pretty.
