After 20 years of marriage, I filled for divorce and that process is now mostly over. I am in my 40's male in good shape and if I have to restart my life, I want to do it in a state that I absolutely love. I have a college degree, great resume, great references and work history and I will be able to find a good job quickly. I am coming from a state in the Northeast.

The only down side is after the divorce agreement is finalized, I will have to pay off part of the condo we bought just 3 years ago, pay off my car lease and buy another car. I made the mistake of putting her on my business as a partner and I now cannot afford to buy her out so we closed the business last week and the list goes on and on. I am not complaining or unhappy with it at all because in the end I am just glad to be moving on to my next adventure in life.

Long story short, I will be down to $1500 cash but every single one of my bills will be paid up through January. As I calculate it I will be fine with everything except housing until I get my first paycheck. My question is are there any very cheap or even free housing options anyone can think of or knows about for just 4 weeks? Or even for just the first 2 weeks as I can then figure it out from there.

I know this is a risky move but it would not be much different if I stayed here. And to be honest if anyone has went through a painful divorce you will understand why I absolutely need to make this move. I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas or knew some miracle like this in the Charlotte area? While I know this is a long shot request, I am willing to exhaust every possibility to make this move happen. Thanks!

Do you have a job lined up? Picking up a job quickly with that kind of financial pressure could result in taking a job which is less than you're planning on.

YMCA on Park Rd used to have rooms to rent or use short term, depending upon your financial situation. BUT, that was many years ago. Maybe someone on here can clarify or update for you.

I do not have a job lined up yet but I will have 70+ jobs applied for in the week before I head down. I am using an address from a UPS mailbox facility in Charlotte. I will check out every cheap "rooms for rent" option that I can find, thanks!

What I am doing sounds crazy even to me, lol. But staying here feeling trapped in a bad situation is the only thing I am not willing to do anymore. Of course I would like to be doing this under different circumstances but this is the path out in front of me and I will just have to figure it out as I go, come what may.

Thanks for the idea's and thought's so far, if anyone else has any other ideas please share, it would be greatly appreciated.

HA!! Good luck. We were SO sure my husband would get a job quickly (came from a Fla) . All we heard was Charlotte is THE place to be for his line of work. People will fall over themselves for finance Workers. There are more jobs than people etc..

He put in over 80+ apps in the Finance field. We even started packing our house up knowing someone HAD to call back with that many apps out and over 20 years in the work force... took us a year to even get an offer and call back. . We lost out on $ we put down on an apt thinking we needed to secure it quickly incase we had to get up and go... job market is HIGHLY competitive here. Do not expect a job to happens quickly. Even I had a hard time and I was the former head pasty chef at the Waldorf. I was in competition with tons of Johnson and Wales grads willing to do interns for free. If I were you I'd be getting a job lined up before you jumped into anything at all.

The south is full of cheap options people don't even imagine in the northeast. Try a city liek Kannapolis which is cheap, I guarantee on CL u can find a room for way less 1,500. Even in Charlotte. If you have a car, walmart allows people to sleep in their car overnight, so long as u don't cause trouble. If you can prove u make under a certain amount, like under 29k with last few paystubs that could get u into a decent apartment of an income restricted community, which honestly looks no different from the other ones, all re-modeled, etc. The direct deposits in NC are much lower as well, double the rent is unheard of here, it's often 200 if you have decent credit, or 1 month if you have bad credit.
