Was watching channel 16 on TW Cable (Char-Meck Govt Access) and they said that 5,000,000...yes...5 million passengers rode the 1st year (ending Nov 24, 2008) and had an on time percentage rate of 99.5% well exceeding their expectations in ridership.
Lets hope that helps us with funding for future lines!

That really is great news. I know, I for one, have not driven Uptown one single time since it has opened. It truly is a great asset to our city. The development around the line as you approach Uptown is just another sign of it's overall influence on the continuous development of the city.
Charlotte & Mecklenburg should not have to pay for it leaving Mecklenburg though...like going to Mooresville or Monroe...that should be on them.
It should at least go to Davidson & Matthews though.
But again, wouldn't most transportation problems be solved if people chose to live NEAR their activities vs have a long commute?
IMHO all this transportation only furthers the problem of people living 45+ minutes from their work.

Sure, in a perfect world. But in reality, affordable housing in a clean, safe, well kept neighborhood near center city is hard to find. Most people simply can't afford the price tag that comes with nice living near center city, so they sacrifice their commute for the sake of their families well-being. Also, let's not forget, you are really not going far out of the city to create a 45 minute commute - so options are quite limited.
