So I had made reservations at Ruths Chris in October. In fact, they told me I was the first reservation for nye. (I find odd because in Miami, if you want a nice place, you need to book it about 6 months out) Anyways, we arrived for our reservation on time and there was a wait. No big deal. Finally our turn and they tried to seat us next to a window. I'm wearing a sweater dress and was like no way!! It's what 38 degrees outside and you want to sit me near a window that has cold air coming off it???? So we waited some more for a table in a warmer spot. No big deal. Finally get one and everything is fine and dandy. Our waiter is not the best and I know I personally could have done a better job but that's besides the point. They bring our steaks out, both NY strips his medium rare and mine medium, and my steak/butter has a very bitter taste to it. I couldn't explain it. The bf's taste normal like a typical RC steak. So I bring the waiter over and explain the situation. They said they'll bring me a new steak. Fine. They bring it out and I cut into it-completely raw. I mean we are talking purple and red. At this point I'm livid. The waiters face is priceless and is like we can throw it back on and get it to correct temp. I said just pack it up and bring me the check NOW. They didn't charge me for the steak but the bill was still $98. The waiter got $15 and is lucky he even got that. Guess what I ended up eating??? Chicken McNuggets for $3. This is the second bad expierence I've had at this RC and am not going back. What a total disappointing evening.

As you can tell, I can't sleep so this is just a great new beginning to a new year..

Sorry to hear that. I've ALWAYS thought Ruth's Chris is highly overrated. I'd much rather get a steak at Morton's, and I think Del Fresco's in Southpark is the best around. RC used to be a great high-end steakhouse, but now it just seems like a not-so-great chain place to me.

I haven't been to Del Frisco's yet. Sorry to hear about your bad experience it is not the first one I have read on this board. I guess I am just lucky that I have never had a problem there.

I prefer RC over the Morton's that I have gone to. I know that DF gets their meat from the same company that Morton's so there may not be much of a difference between the two.

I've had most of the high priced steaks and honestly for the value, I'd choose Outback over them any day. The sirloin special is really good and you don't have to pay for sides. On busy occasions I can just use the "To Go" option and get it home where I don't have to tip or worry about service issues.

I totally agree. When I used to travel for work, I'd get home from the airport between 7 and 9PM, so I'd call the Outback near my house and pick up an Outback Special on the way home. It was always ready when I got there, it was a good meal, and it only cost $12.95 for a complete dinner.

Himain - Sorry your evening didn't go as planned. Today is a whole New Year! Hope it brings a lot of good things for you.

What a way to bring in a special evening!

So sorry for your experience. I was there last spring and it was a totally horrifying experience for being a "fine dining" establishment. Tables set up like you were in Appleby's or something (not that there is anything wrong with Appleby's, but, if you are going to someplace high-end, you EXPECT high-end.)

Good thing that they didn't charge you for the steak. That was probably the only good thing about the whole evening.

Of the things I'd actually spend a bunch of money on for food, it wouldn't be a steak. If you can cook yourself, I've found that going to a good butcher shop and grilling it yourself is as good or better than a fancy restaurant. Speaking of which, where is there a good butcher shop in the Lake Norman area. When I go out I like to get stuff I won't cook or has too many ingredients like slow cooked ribs, or stuff like that.

I hail from New Orleans where R'sC started and it was never all that great. People fawned over it bu I coudn't understand it. I think it's sort of like fashion, whatever is "in" is "hot" whether or not it's attractive - or good, in the case of R'sC. I'm with Flexysteve, I do the best ribeye on my grill!

On the other hand you could've had 5 Taco Bell soft tacos & a chili chocolate bar like I did & spent the night on the toilet. I guess its all relative.
