Article below:

Charlotte area's jobless outlook is 'sobering' | CharlotteObserver.com (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/597/story/637794.html - broken link)

Excerpt from this articles for those who are still planning to move to Charlotte refusing to digest the realities of this City's high unemployment rate. Now at 10.6% and rising.
The region's rebound will be hindered by newcomers, many of whom won't have a place to work upon arrival.
“They think the cost of living is moderate, and there are opportunities here, but it takes them a while to find a job,” said John Silvia, Wachovia's chief economist. “We're suffering from the attractiveness of Charlotte.”

Not that I'm ignoring the unemployment rate...and don't discredit moving only with secured employment...

But the day I listen to a "chief economist" from a failed bank...psssh...never.

At least you are trying to secure employment beforehand. I posted this for those who are coming with no job prospects at all. Some are leaving states with lower unemployment rates then Charlotte. NPR did a story about a couple who did that very thing a few months ago.

This needs to be brought to the top for anyone wanting to move here. This is real. PLEASE secure a job BEFORE you come!

I heard (from a good source) that the Wachovia Investment Banking sector is expected to be cut by 400-500 people by end of April.

The problem is (and I argued against this MANY times usually by myself), that the money magazines and other financial porn publications that people cut/paste here on CD which read "Charlotte as 1 of the top places to live" are a big part of the problem.

Now the chickens come home to roost and people are surprised???

And too many of those "chickens" were not Perdue U. graduates either!
To all you "bird-brains" who are contemplating a move to Charlotte without a job, you got the town name wrong..... it is Columbia SC you're looking for! Governor Sandford is throwing out the Welcome Mat and a copy of "How to Become Rich buying Real Estate" for every "vic... I mean "newcomer". Remember, when you see Charlotte from I-77, keep going South for a bit longer. You're almost there!

It's repeated mantra in every single moving post. The last thing we need or want is a constant reminder of negative news stuck to the top of our internet getaway. We'd be making the situation worse by doing so...much like the news does a fine job of already. If folks are not intelligent to pick up on this before moving, then it'll be a good lesson learned...something we're all to quick to subvert today.

Point well taken, Steve.

However, the fact remains . . . people read stuff from 2005-2007, especially, and so have this picture in their minds of Charlotte as Land of Milk and Honey.

We have posted about this over and over, but people still come, making the situation WORSE. This is truly putting a strain on our infrastructure here. The hope is to get people to STOP COMING w/o a job as their eventual unemoployment and need for social services is already impacting our food banks, homeless shelters, public health services, etc. We can't take care of the citizens who have been in need and lived here all their lives w/ budget cuts and added demand from newcomers.

It is a serious problem! And all it is doing is making it more difficult for people to land a job.

The illegals figured it out already. There have been numerous articles all over the country describing how illegals can see the handwriting on the wall and are leaving this country - b/c people are now vying for those low paying jobs that liberals like to say "no one else wants." Seems to me if the illegal immigrants amongst us have figured it out . . . that others in various areas around the country could figure it out, as well.

But I am tired of beating this horse b/c inevitably, when I post info about jobs being scarce, those contemplating moving here say I am being unwelcoming.
