We need some basic stuff done (replacing faucets, ceiling lights, ceiling fans). Anyone have a really good experience with any of the "handyman" services that are reasonably priced? I called one but it seemed a bit expensive to me (4 hours /$350 - 8 hours / $625). Does this seem like the going rate?

Thanks in advance for input

That rate is way too high. My HOA puts out a list of suggested people in South Charlotte. The few that I called and like were:

Handyman Svcs. John Harvey 704-554-7983
Handyman Svcs. Stephen Newsom 704-942-4509
Handyman Svcs. Gerry Jantsch 704-400-6392

Thanks for the input. What does everyone think the "going rate" is? Title of this thread should have not said Best but more looking for someone who can just get the job done cleanly at a reasonable price (they also don;t need to be in S. Charlotte that's just where we are...). Any other suggestions?

Its tough to find good folks for stuff like that....check out this site: www.mikesrepairs.com I have used him several times on many different projects...very professional, on-time and great workmanship!

Rates are really competitive too!

Good luck

Thanks for sharing the site. However, I think the site is so unprofessional. Not ready for prime time.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean anything. When I deal with a prospective vendor, I want to look at all aspects. I went to the site to get a contact number so that I could use in the future; I couldn't find anything, was a little but disappointed.

I just went back to the site, it looks a lot better now, a totally diff. design. I might have been on the wrong site earlier.

Pricing for services will depend on expertise needed. Wiring, always get an electrician, except if it is just a faceplate switch out. Gas always get a certified technician. Also consider if it is a sole proprietor or a service, or if they bought a service to give leads. Ask about experience, people who have done renovations to older homes usually have better skills. Those who have come out of new construction have lesser skills. Don't expect them to charge you the same as if you went down to Lowe's and did it yourself.

Yea that seems high to me but prices vary widely...In the charlotte nc area fans range between $75.00-125.00....light fixtures should be 30-50 each...the more the less of course and plumbing varies depending on repair...try to limit the trips any handyman or contractor has to make to reduce cost....hope this helps... General Handyman Pricing
