I just wanted to talk about the Ace near my house at West WT Harris and Old Sugar Creek road. This place has only been open a year or so but it is so nice to have a hardware store close to home and not have to hit the superstores up. 90% of the time they have what I need at a comparable price or maybe a little bit more but these people know who we are and greet us every time we go into the store. It got me thinking about all the other places we frequent that aren't chains like our local Pizza place Davinci's or Antony's Caribbean Cafe and even Hansel and Gretal's Bakery. These places I'm sure aren't doing as well as they were 2 or 3 years ago and are struggling to stay afloat while most of us choose to stay home and watch movies while we wait for the economy to thaw out. I'd just like to say that if you do get out, please look for these local places and drop a few dollars their way if you can please.

(And no, I don't work for any of these companies)

I always try to give business to the local (in-county) places over the bigger stores when I can.

However, the sad reality is many do not have that luxury when finances keep getting squeezed tighter and tighter.

Ok, if you go down Harris Blvd towards I-77 you'll see the Autobell on your right, right after the Autobell there is a little shopping center that has a Philly Connection that faces Harris. Right next to Philly is the Hansel and Gretal bakery. Here is the link...

I also recommend Ace in Indian Trail and Blackhawk HW at Park Road Shopping Center.

I buy quite a bit of metric hardware and it is so refreshing to be able to buy single items and insure correct fit versus having to buy a 5-10 pack of something (is a plastic bag) at a big box store.

We like to support family business as well. Mullman, + 1 for Black Hawk hardware. That store has everything!! The people are so friendly and very knowledgable. There is a nice little diner in that shopping center and a great book store as well. I can usually spend a day in that center when I go.

Totally agree with the +1 for Blackhawk hardware - the staff goes out of it's way to help you, and they don't frown if you don't buy. Great option compared to HD and Lowe's.

Too bad I can't say the same for the Ace hardware in Indian Trail near our new house, visited there 3 times, and found them to be not quite helpful, and drove over to the Lowe's on 74...new store is so empty, the staff is falling all over you.

I have been in the Ace Hardware store in Indian Trail a number of times and have always received good service from a very attentive and knowledgeable staff.

I love going to the Black Hack Ace that's near me. When was the last time an employee at HD or Lowes asked you if you needed help, let alone was around when you needed help. I usually have to walk around for 10 minutes to find someone in those stores and then wait for them to finish helping someone else. And some of them have been down right rude to me. That's not to say I haven't had a good experience at the big box stores, I have. But I always have a good experience at Ace.

My wife is from NY and one of the things I love about it up there is the abundance of Mom and Pop places.

I love to support the local stores. We bought all of our appliances at Queen City and my Snapper riding mower at a local hardware store. Unfortunately the "mom and pop" stores are slowly disappearing.
