suggestions on neighborhoods (Charlotte, Waxhaw: houses, public schools, live in)

We are considering moving to the Charlotte area and have several priorities in making a decision. Good public schools are a must, proximity to reform temple (20minutes or less each way),family oriented neighborhhood, 40 minutes or less commute to commercial Charlotte (for work purposes) and reasonble 15-20 proximity to retail areas. We would love a neighborhood where the kids play outside together and hang out at each others houses. We had that for a while but all of my son's friends moved and there don't seem to be kids the right age for my daughter. Welive in a family oriented/young community,however,our surrounding neighbors have kids either the wrong age or just don't really hang out. We are jewish so it would be nice if there were other jewish families around but we are certainly not looking for an all jewish neighborhood, diversity is great. Our price range is about $250. We have some friends in Waxhaw but I'm not sure if that is too far from Beth El, I don't want to drive more than 20 minutes each way for religious school because I will have to do that 2 times a week on top of whatever regular communte I have. Any suggestions are really appreciated.

I transport my kids at least 2x per week to go to religious school (Temple Israel)...my mailing address is Waxhaw but I am really just over the South Charlotte border into Union County. It takes me about 20 minutes door to door.
