Hub and I are looking to retire to NC area in a year and a half or so. We are looking to buy an older home with an acre or so. Is this realistic in the Mooresville area? Not really wanting a subdivision. I want convienence of shopping different locals but w/o alot of driving time.
Any issues with water or sewage?

its going to depend on price and what you want in a home. Yes its doable.
