Hi, my dog has come down with a serious eye infection over the weekend. I've tried to keep it clean, but her eye has become very sensitive to touch. We do not have a regular vet to go to, my dog is very people shy and visits to the vet have always been a disaster.

Unfortunately, I am in the ranks of the unemployed, so money is tight. I need to find a vet asap in the Charlotte area that doesn't charge outrageous fees.

Please help with info. I am very concerned about my dog.

Thanks!

there are so many non profit groups you can find that assist with spay/neuter, vet care assistance. although i can provide you with the connections from my previous state florida, unfortunately i am unable to give you a direct contacts for nc.

but every state has lost cost/no cost programs to help you. my daughters after-school teacher was in the same situation and couldn't afford the surgery her dog needed. i told her to search online for these organizations. she found one that paid directly to her vet and paid 3/4 of the bill for her. i wish i had gotten the number from her. but i want to let you know they are out there and available. do some searching online or start by calling the obvious (humane society etc) for recommendations.

if i find anything, i'll let you know.

good luck and i hope your dog feels better!

Default Thanks Kaya6

Hi, I looked online this weekend and didn't come up with any links for low-cost. Per your suggestion, I called the Humane Society first thing this morning and could never reach a "real" person. So, considering my dog's problem, I had no choice but to take her to a vet. The dr was really gentle and kind. It seems my dog will have to go back for several visits (so, that's more money which I really don't have), but what can I do....she needs to be well.

I am late on this, but wanted to recommend our vet: Long Animal Hospital for excellent care and low prices (compared to some places here).

Hope your dog feels better soon!

The Humane Society of Charlotte is open from 11am - 5pm. Try calling again! I volunteer there and their animals are VERY well taken care of.

As for a good vet, we take ours to Mixed Pet - Ballantyne. There are two more locations, but all in the South Charlotte area. They are really well priced (in my opinion) and really friendly. Dr. Pressly is great with our boys; one's a rescued pup and the other is a too-bright-for-his-own-good 2yr old wuss. If you're in the South Charlotte area, give them a call, they're great.

LOVE Dr. Mark and Dr. Frank at Birkdale Animal Hospital, but they're far from inexpensive IMO.
