We know very little about Charlotte, but love what we have researched so far. We are a couple with two young children. We are wondering what the best neighborhoods/areas in Charlotte are for us? (Best schools, daycares, activities) We would like to be near amenities.

I look forward to some responses!

What do you define as "amenities"? Are you looking to rent or buy? What's your price range?

And of course the standard question: will you have a job when you get here?

We would like to rent for our first year. We are hoping that we do not have to spend over $900 on rent for a three bedroom. Amenities would be some type of shopping (close to what the city has to offer.) We don't want to live in the middle of nowhere.

We have started applying for jobs there and cannot move until my husband secures one.

We want to find a safe neighborhood for our children. Any ideas?

Default Not in CLT yet but

We are looking at the Ballantyne area for housing. Need to get someone to buy my current home in Illinois and then the rest of the family can move on down!

If you have not done so, I recommend visiting too for at least a few days to get a feel for the neighborhoods and area. FYI I felt very safe where I looked. Now I'm used to locking up cars and houses, so maybe that's part of it . Originally from Miami, FL.

Not to be mean-spirited, but I gotta ask - Have you watched the national news in the last three months, LOL? We have one of the highest unemployment rates in the whole nation.

Of course, it all depends on what your areas of expertise are . . . and your salary expectations as well.

Now if you are coming from Michigan then it's probably better in CLT! I have relatives there who are wondering why they can't find a job in the Grand Rapids area.

I believe the national average is now 8.1% unemployment.

Definitely start looking now so you can have something lined up when you do come. Good luck!

Hey, we are in the same boat. My husband and I are also in Illinois and are planning our getaway to Charlotte by August. He works at a federal savings bank in Watseka, so he's looking for a job in the same sector...

I hope things go well for you in your move, I suggest that you save a few hundred bucks if possible and drive to Charlotte for a look around...

It was so hard to visualize what everyone was suggesting to me here last year, so we made the sacrifice to go, and it was worth every penny.
