Can anybody tell me the names of beers brewed locally in the Charlotte area? Are these beers available at local grocery stores or do you have to go directly to the brewery? Thanks!

Carolina Blonde in Mooresville, sold pretty much anywhere in the area. You can also go directly to the brewery for the tour and samplings.

Highland Brewing in Asheville makes some nice stuff. I know you can get it at Ingles supermarkets, but maybe in HT?

I have never had it but Red Oak is fairly local, is it not?

I'm not a big fan of local brews, but Carolina Blonde has impressed me!

^^ Greensboro.

There really aren't many local breweries in the charlotte area other than the above.

There are some mirco-breweries.

Hops Restuarant in Matthews is pretty good (if it is still open...I am never on that side of town).

Rock Bottom in uptown has a good selection.

As for stuff you get in the grocery store...I do like Highland Brewing Co out of Asheville. Available at most grocery stores.

+1 Carolina Blond and Red Oak.

Avanti at the Arboretum has CB on draught.

Otherwise I enjoy Stella, Blue Moon, and Franziskaner Hefeweissen (draught always).

Where do you find Franziskaner on draught? I picked that up a few times last summer from HT and love it!

A few other places around town as well, such as Brixx (http://www.brixxpizza.com/menu_Beer.html - broken link)

Thanks for the responses. I'm really getting into drinking beers brewed in NC. I would like to check out the Carolina Beer (http://www.carolinabeer.com/Carolina_Beer/Home/?load - broken link) tour the next time I am down in the Charlotte area. I've had the Carolina Blond before and like it a lot. BTW, if you are ever in the Triangle you should check out Big Boss and Carolina Brewing Company. You can find their beers in local bars and in Kroger and Harris Teeter. A few other local breweries new to this area include Lone Rider and Aviator.
