If you are a Federal Employee in Charlotte (especially with small children) please send me a PM to discuss federal agencies locations (does everyone work in the Federal Building? and where is the federal building), benefits to Federal Employees in NC and cost of living on a GS13/9 salary with wife staying home, three kids in private school, we like to eat out and go out to the sites every weekend and we have two cars...my agency is scheduled to open an office in Charlotte by Jan. 2008.

Hi there-

Sorry to be nosy, but my BF and I are graduating from law school in May and will be moving to Charlotte in July. We are both really wanting to work for the federal gov (not necessarily in legal positions) and have been very disappointed in the apparent lack of opportunities in Charlotte. Seems there are no federal listings in Charlotte that I've come across. May I ask what agency is opening there? Do you know if they will be hiring?

Sorry if I hijacked your thread!

Default Govt jobs

I honestly can't say because if I tell you then you will know what I do (and I prefer to keep that confidential) and my job also relates to national security. The federal jobs are scarce in Charlotte and when we come everyone will know it. Yes, we may be hiring....keep checking www.usajobs.com. Good luck.

Default Fbi

There is an FBI office in the old Wachovia building. And I don't know where the office is, but I have two friends whose husbands work for the ATF. There is also a branch of the Fed uptown; part of the Richmond branch.

I believe the Federal Building is on the West side of Trade Street uptown. Most of the government buildings are, with the exception of the courthouses and the jail.

Yes it is very hard to find gov't jobs here in Charlotte (& elsewhere for that matter). I've been trying to get into the Fed. Gov't for 3yrs (have a MS in Crim.) & I'm not focusing on just Charlotte. I have heard they will be opening a Federal Immigration Court here sometime in the future- like 2yrs or so.
I *think* all the Fed. agencies are located downtown, but I don't think they are all located in one building. Trade St. comes to mind- for some reason.

I originally started working for the federal government when I was 18 (2002) in Charlotte. When I transferred to Florida to finish college I was also able to transfer my job with the fed gov't. Now that I have graduated I am returning home to Charlotte to start grad school and I am still able to keep my job with the same agency. From personal experience the government is very flexible and fair to its employees. I have remained with my agency for 5 years and plan to stay until I retire. Hang in there and Good Luck on your search!!

am I the only one that is confused by this topic? I understand your question in the title, but cant seem to understand what you are asking in your post? Are you wanting a job, or are you with an agency? Are you just asking to see if federal employees in Charlotte like it, or are you prospecting for employees? A little more information might be good...
