We recently signed up for a lawn care service with someone that was referred to us. He seems very professional and I have agreed to pay him $200 per month for the following. I am wanting some opinions on whether I am overpaying or if this is a fair fee ($2,400 for the full year to take care of all this stuff). I have a very flat approx .5 acre lawn. Thanks.

General Maintainance - 36 in-season and 4 winter visits (includes cutting, blowing etc and I assume any "general" stuff that needs to be fixed while he is there)
2x pre-emergent
2x other fertilization
1x Shrub fertilization
1x turf control summer weeds
1x turf control winter weeds
Shrub weed control - spraying - as needed
Weed control - hand oulling as necessary
Insect control
1x aeration and overseeding
Pruning shrubs as needed
2x Leaf removal

yes it does...(he said cutting)

Well, I look at it like is it worth it to pay someone $50/week to do this?

For some it might be well worth it.....

It all depends on how much you value your time, do you want to save money and do it yourself?....etc......

Well, I priced out simply having someone mow my lawn. I have 1/2 acre but mostly in trees, mulch, decks, etc. Just to mow the very small amount of grass, the cheapest I found was $35. This did not include any of the services you mentioned. If it had, I would have definitely hired them.

I think you have a good deal there. We pay someone $27 for occasional service of mowing, edging and blowing on our .20 lot.

'd say if this company does quality job they are offering it at reasonable cost.I pay about $1600 total/yr(add another $300-350 charge for shrub service which I don't use) for similar services for 1/3 acre but I have separate company for lawn treatment, aeration, etc as I find that many of lawn mowing service companies are more costly on treatment work and most importantly do not near as good of job as those that specialize in lawn treatment(ferilize, etc) work. I pay $30 per mow and lawn treatments thru year are about $650.

Thats about $60 per visit. This is slightly high but within reason for 0.5 flat acres. If the guy is knowledgeable and can actually help your lawn then its probably worth it. If its some teenager or grimmy looking outfit then I would say its overpriced.
