What shade-loving shrubs grow well down here. I would like something that gets to be about 3-4' high. Flowering plant would be great. But yeah, it gets a lot of shade with a little sun flickering through but not much. Any ideas? Anifani, I know you will have ideas for me.

Start with azaleas. Look for the ones with small leaves. They won't get as tall as the ones with larger leaves.
I got 3 small ones for an area in my front yard a couple of weeks ago at Home Depot for $2,50 each. They're small, but will grow & be perfect for the area. Look at Home Depot, but they may be sold out (at that price). If they are sold out, look for bigger plants but check for small leaves.

Yes, that is one I am very familiar with. I have many in my yard but they are in the sun. I didn't realize you could grow them in the shade. Any ideas for things that bloom after the azaelas? My azaelas (I have 11 of them) are looking great. I started putting coffee grounds on them a few weeks ago and they are loving it.

Honestly, I had better luck with azaleas in shade & partial shade in South Jersey.
Aucuba are really nice, but bigger than you want. If you can figure out a way to work one in, I think you'd be happy with it. Paghat's Garden: Aucuba japonica

Wayside Gardens has some great plants. I used to order from them in South Jersey & had great luck. You can get a lot of ideas & check local nurseries, Home Depot, & Lowes.
1. Encore azaleas (they bloom twice a year, as opposed to only once).
2. Camellia sasanqua.
Both will get 3-4 ft. and have nice flowers.
Go to Stowes Nursery in Gastonia...huge selection and best service. They will get you what you need/want. Worth the trip.
Camelias, hydrangeas, rhodedendrons, or gardenias.
