Hello,

We're planning on building a deck very soon and were wondering where to go to get a permit for this kind of thing. We live just within Meck County in SW Charlotte and someone mentioned the planning board. If anyone else has gone through this process before, please advice on how you went about it and who we need to get in touch with to submit plans, file paperwork etc. Also any info on how much this costs and how long it takes would be great too!

Thanks so much!

Here is link for info on deck code in MECK:

Here are rules:

Appropriate permits are required for any building
construction, alteration, or repair involving new or
changed uses of property (other than ordinary repairs).

EXCEPTION: Permits shall not be required
for any work costing $5,000 or less
, unless the
work involves:

• The addition, repair, or replacement of load
bearing structures;
• The addition or change in the design of a
plumbing system;
• The addition, replacement or change in the
design of a heating or air conditioning system;
• The addition, replacement or change in the
design of an electrical system;
• The use of materials not permitted by the
code

Other info here (and link to getting your own permit online)

Hope that helps! Good luck!
