Good Morning All, I am hoping to move to the Charlotte this July. After doing some reading here, I will not be moving UNTIL I get a job. I have a few questions that maybe someone can help me with. First one is -How are the jobs for a Machinist/Toolmaker? Second- Where are some good areas to look for apt/townhouse/condo to rent with decent prices? And the last one is-With the exception of wanting to be a asset to my community what are some suggestions to help me to avoid being just another person from somewhere else who is taking a job away. I know to avoid the typical " where I came from it was like this" statement. I was down last year for a visit and I can't explain it but I knew that this is where I WANTED to live. Thanks for any help.

Walt, sorry to say, there are not many factories left that would have machinists/toolmakers. And, our unemployment is 11.5%. Really not a good time.

The other suggestion would be...find your job first...then, determine where to live in relation to the job. Traffic here is rather annoying.

Good Luck!

Check machine shops in the Concord - Kannapolis area. I service a couple there and they have NASCAR accounts that keep them going. One of my customers was looking to hire when I was up there last.

Thank you bugguy for the heads up. I'll start looking in that area and shooting out resumes. That would be cool because I like NASCAR. Thanks again..

Check out NTI (NASCAR TECHNICAL INSTITUTE) and some of the race teams. Mooresville, NC in the Lake Norman area is Race City USA and they are starting to rehire now that race season is in full swing. Carriage Club Apartments in Mooresville is the place to live if you end up finding a job there. Good luck!

Check careerbuilder.com. They have machinist positions from time to time.
