You are going about this the right way, then! Again, didn't mean to sound like you would not like it here or wouldn't feel welcomed.

You might like Huntersville . . . and I think it would depend on where you buy/rent as to how many in their 20s would be living there. This would put you near the lake and about 2 hours or so from the mountains. Places like Asheville and Boone would be really nice but limited employment even in the best of times (but you could still check it out since you have some time b/f you are gonna move).

If planing to have a family, charlotte is a great town.
If you want mountains, move out west. Same with the ocean.
