Hey everyone, I'm on the verge of graduating college and have applied to participate Teach for America in Charlotte next fall. I am incredibly excited at the possiblity of moving to Charlotte. I have started trying to do some research to help faciliate the move. I'll be coming to Charlotte with my fiance who is actively trying to find a new job as well. I've serached high and low on the internet and still do not feel like I really know where I should be looking to live. We are looking to buy a home. Because it is just the two of us, we won't need a huge place and don't feel we need to spend a fortune, but would like to find a place to call home that is safe, convient and in an area that is growing. This being a very big first investment, I want to be sure I've collected a good amount of information before jumping in. Any tips, advice or websites that can help us, since we'll be planning most of the move from here in Illinois would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you for being a teacher I can't thank enough the great teachers that my children have and have had in the past. It is not I job that I would even be mediocre at, and I feel fortunate that there are good people who have chosen teaching as a career.

In terms of buying a home, do you know where you will be working? Also a price range? It would help me and others on the board suggest where you might start looking.

Best of luck to you

thanks for the reply. i've been off the boards for a few weeks and hope you'll still be able to help! We are not suburban types and subdivisions drive me nuts so we're looking to find something closer to uptown. I don't know yet what school I'll be at, but a commute doesn't bother me much. Price range is still pretty flexible, but for the fun of it, let's say under 225,000.

Hi there. I am a school counselor.

I would say you should wait until you get a job location. Charlotte-Meck is a big area and if you have to commute from one end of town to the other you could end up in an hour or more of traffic.

Atleast one of you getting a job location would be helpful, because there is more than one good choice on where to live... that said the most popular for young people are intown, Southend, Dilworth-- you can still get condos and some townhouses under 225K -- you can see more of the area at my removed-check out the Community Slide Shows for Dilworth.
