I have just about had it with Los Angeles and need to get out of California. I have always wanted to live on the east coast and Charlotte seems like it would be the best area for me to live in. Can anyone tell me which areas would be the best and safe for a single male to live?

Do you like quiet or lively environments? Do you want an apartment or a house?

I would like an area that is quiet and I prefer an apartment type setting.

If you want to stay in the city I would say Ballantyne. Otherwise, I would look up in Davidson, Huntersville, Cornelius. That is basically Lake Norman.

The Matthews area is good. Lake Norman has a lot of traffic. Also, Union County has a lot to offer. However, there are not many apartments in Union County.

Are you planning to work from home or do you have a job lined up here?

I moved from Pasadena.

Since you don't know what kind of commute you will end up making, I would suggest Huntersville, simply b/c it is a convenient, safe area to live in . . . and even if you have an awful commute the first year, it won't be forever. You should be able to get something in your price range. At least that gives you a place to start. Or as Hokie said - add Cornelius to the search - near the Lake.
