I was surprised to see that gas is significantly cheaper in Atlanta than in Charlotte. Georgia's tax per gallon is about 7 cents per gallon and NC's is 31 cents.

I was wondering if those who have lived in both cities can state whether home utilities (i.e., gas and electric) costs the same or less in Atlanta.

Thanks

Thanks. What's the approximate difference? 10% 20%?

When I learned that Ga's gasoline tax is much lower than NC's, I assumed that taxes on home gas and elec. were cheaper too.

Avg Gas Price 2.39 in Atlanta
Avg Gas Price 2.43 in Charlotte

Using GasBuddy.com and averaging the first 10 results when typing in Atlanta and Charlotte.

4 cents...so assuming the avg person spends between 1,500 and 2,000 on gas per year...the overall yearly savings would be maybe 20 or 30 bucks.

If the tax rate at the state is so much lower, Atlanta either has a separate tax on top of the state's or the owner's of gas stations in Atlanta are raking in more profit.

Also, are we gonna count property tax into this equation? Or more on level possibly compare avg commute times?

I would've liked to compare Charlotte on this list so it was Apple's to Apple's but unfortunately we didn't make this list...let alone take first.
