What is this grassy weed? Some of it has started to grow amongst my fescue grass. How do I kill it without killing the grass? I've sprayed for weeds already this year but this thing grows like a...well, a weed.

TIA

Default Is it Johnson grass?

Can't really tell from your photo - could it be Johnson grass?

Use Round-up. Just be careful not to hit your grass. It will kill it too.
You can make a "splash collar" by making a cone out of cardboard and wrapping it around the weed before spraying.

My advice would be wait until around labor day, kill'em all, and reseed afterward.

You can cut the top off a plastic milk jug (gallon size) and use that as a protector of surrounding plants. It gives you a narrow space at the bottom and more room to really spray the weed. Plus, it's re-usable if you don't have kids or pets that might get to it.

Weed B Gone will kill most weeds without ruining the grass, so it's safer to use than Round Up.

It appears to me to be either purple or yellow nutsedge.

Sedges are easily identifiable by the triangular cross section at the stalk.

I don't think it's a sedge though... it looks like rye, but it's too hot for rye right now, so the fact that it's actively growing makes me skeptical. Probably something like nimblewill...
