The local veggie/fruit shop in Kannapolis sells eggs from Simpson's Eggs in Monroe... anyone know anything about the company?

Their website says their family owned and have been around awhile. I'd like to support a local company/farm, but it also seems like they have a pretty big operation. Anyone know if the chickens are free range, cage/antibiotic free or at least generally well-kept? Or, are they a "big business/tiny cages" type farm that just happens to be local?

Trying to shop local, but also buy responsibly farmed products. I'm thinking it may be +1 for supporting the fruit store, +1 for local egg company but -1 for how the chickens are kept... I know this is a random question, but if anyone knows let me know!

Simpson's have been local to Union County for years. The other big producer in the county was Braswell Eggs. The commodities crunch 6 or 7 years ago finally did Braswell Eggs in. I used to go to Braswell's farm in Wingate and pick my own eggs if I wished. It was a Mom and Pop operation that sold eggs as far away as Virginia and Georgia. Simpson's and Braswell's tried to grow with the other big national producers in an attempt to stay in business and competitive. When Braswell's folded, it gave Simpson's enough life to continue and make it through the crunch. They are a large producer that started small. I believe their main (and only) facility is out Hwy 218, rows of long chicken houses. I'll bet you can still drive right up to the office and buy fresh eggs that were under chickens that morning.
