I was quoted (after some back and forth) $7200 for purchase and installation of an American Standard A/C unit and furnace.

The model is an Allegiance 14 (3 ton).

This is with a reputable company (A- on BBB.com), full warranties, permits, etc.

They do offer 12 months same as cash which is nice.

What do you guys think? This is worse than buying mattresses.

Thanks in advance.

Well, it's always good to get more than one quote. However, we don't know where you are to recommend companies. For instance, I deal with a very honest company out of Bessemer City, but you don't want their name if you live in Union County.

This is in line with what Id expect. Assuming you have over a couple thousand square feet and/or the unit is 15 SEER or higher...

We went through this a few years ago.

Our quotes ranged from 6000-9000.

This was for a 2200 sq. ft house.

It was interesting to see the different ways the quotes were presented. It was during the middle of winter, so it was COLD in our house.

One company came, checked out the duct work, and provided several quotes right away.

Another company came, was just as nice, but wanted to show pictures (lots of them) of their training facility, staff, etc. Like I said, it was really cold in the house. I just wanted a quote, lol! I knew they were a good company, which is why I had them come out for a quote, but it was too cold for picture sharing.

And yet another company said they needed to cut into the wall and re-do all of the duct work.

Long story short, we didn't have to replace any duct work because it was in great shape.

We ended up paying around 6000 for a brand new unit.

Hope this helps, and good luck to you!

Just had similar unit (Trane though) installed a few months back and paid 7200. Ofcourse, I'll be getting the 1500 tax credit next year as well which makes the damage less. I went with 3 quotes and 7200 was in the middle. The other quotes were 6300 and 7900. The smallest qoute was from 2 man company that I think would have been ok, but I wanted piece of mind knowing that the company I was dealing with had the manpower and resources in case something went wrong during the installation or in the future (service). The highest qoute came from company that seemed like they were more interested in selling their philantrophy than their air conditioners. Good luck!

I think I know exactly what company you were referring to. I thought the exact samething. I was wondering when the guy was going to get to showing me prices and ACs vs their company history!
