Call Channels 3, 9, 18, and 36. They looove to do these kinds of stories, especially on an otherwise slow news day.

Call Carl Betsill at the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission. 919-733-7291. This action is very inhumane and unethical, if it is as you've stated. When you talk to Mr. Betsill, stay calm and leave out any emotions, but tell him precisely what you've witnessed. I'll tell you this, if anyone certified by N.C. to deal with wild animals had done this, and again, if it's what you've described, we'd probably be in jail.

My husband and I are both in disbelief as to how the situation was handled. How horrible for the deer and you had to witness that. Was this a professional that handled the situation ? OMG

This is just disgusting!!!!! Call the news, call PETA, call who ever you have to. What a horrible person to do such a thing. That is just sick. You can't tell me that guy did not know better. Even hunters who have no problem shooting deer don't want to see the animal suffer.

I made my calls today.. I found out that animal control reports to the county sheriff. Spoke with the deputy sheriff. He was very very apologetic for the treatment of the deer and for me having to witness it. He said he would look into the situation and handle it. An hour later, I get a call from the sheriff of union county. He was not happy.. He was extremely apologetic, angry, and disturbed by the whole situation and lack of professionalism.

Will this guy be fired, I don't know. Would I want to be him right now.. Hell no.. This sheriff seemed like a no BS kind of guy and said he would take corrective actions... He seemed genuniely concered about the people living in his county and the employees representing him.
Actuallly all 3 people I spoke with.. County manager, deputy sheriff and sheriff had the same feelings..

Do I leave it at this and trust the sheriff will do what he feels is right?

Is he going to call you back and let you know what he has done? If he handles it and lets you know, and you are happy with the outcome, I would let it end there.
