Driving distance to Richmond and Virginia Beach (Charlotte, Raleigh: home, construction)

I have relatives in both Richmond, VA and Virginia Beach, VA. I usually don't like to use mapquest to judge driving TIME, because it doesn't take normal traffic congestion, road construction, etc, into account when figuring out how long it takes you to drive from Point A to Point B.
Does anyone know about how long it would take to get from south Charlotte (Ballantyne, Matthews, etc) to Richmond, and south Charlotte to VA Beach? I want to know how far away from my relatives I'll be! Thanks!

South Charlotte to Richmond - 4 to 4.5 (depending on how many potty breaks you take ) Haven't made the trip to Virginia Beach, but I believe it is about 5.5 hours.

I just drove from Mooresville to Portsmouth/Norfolk last week. Took me 5.5 hrs to get there.
I am thinking more like 5 + hours, we live before you get to VA Beach and it took us almost 5-6 hours to get there to Charlotte... We stopped once, dh drives like a mad man... Now to Richmond... hmm not sure

I thought it was closer...like leave mid-morning, get there before lunch. Oh well, it's closer than the 35 hours it would take me to drive to see them now! lol
I just came in from Richmond to Ballantyne. I left at 1:30 and was home at 7:00 and stopped for a quick bite to eat...
Maybe you hit road construction or afternoon traffic at the time of day you traveled? I did say 4 to 4.5 hours yesterday - brain fart, sorry Should have said 5 to 5.5 hours from south Charlotte to Richmond, but not when you go thru Charlotte or Raleigh in rush hour traffic.
Well I stopped for 45 minutes to eat, and hit some traffic in Durham and even though they built the new "Bypass" in Greensboro, you would be crazy to go over the speed limit of 65 on that road, because of the 100 or so times I've been on that stretch of road there have ALWAYS been a Trooper or Greensboro police catching speeders who don't know better.
