Seems like a great forum for new comers to charlotte!!

We are moving to Charlotte from Detroit,MI.
Need some advice on what locations are better for renting (less crime rate, better school district etc)
I have a 4 year old, who will be up for schooling in 2010. (What age can a Jan 2005 born start schooling, in Michigan the cut off is December for school year)

Also we are looking to rent a 2 bed/2bath.. i was told south charlotte, around ballentyne is good place.
Please suggest, advice good websites, names of apartment etc etc.

thanks for the assumed help

Actually the cutoff is August 31, as of this year.

We are from the Chicago area. We moved to the Ballantyne area about 2 months ago and we love it! Don't know much about the rental market tho. The schools are very good in S. Charlotte area, as well as N. Charlotte.

Give these folks a price range to work with! No point in telling you about $1500 places if your limit is $800.

We are moving around 20th (Driving all the way)

Movers will get my stuff and car around 22nd..
So in 2 days I need to sign lease and move in..

I pay around $800 for 2 bed/2 bath in MI (not bad.. I used to pay 1300 in SFO for 1 bed aptment).. So I am ok for less than $800.

My son is 4.5 (Jan 21st born) So can he start KG? or PreKG?

I will be working downtown (Wachovia center) and mostly home office.

So folks please suggest which areas in North and South are good..

Also one more etnic sensitive requirement -> Indian community.. Where are they populated, and indian shops etc etc

Just had to make sure - our native Cherokee, Catawba and Lumbee tribes are pretty large here in the Charlotte area.

You won't find one area where all the Indians cluster - multicultural areas are kind of spread out all over the place. However, I do think I've noticed more Indians up near the University area (northeast Charlotte). You would want to check out apartments north of Harris Blvd along Mallard Creek in my opinion.
