I guess what I'm asking is "what's the point?"

If I used that as a guideline in the way I treated people...I would be a very bitter person.

The point is...it is a nice thing to do. It's a simple as this. I'm not saying everyone should do it, it's a matter of personal choice, but I happen to think there is nothing wrong with it. Sure, the guy already gets paid...but so do alot of people that we tip in this world, and if I've left a mess for him to clean up because I didn't take or have the time to throw it away myself, then I am simply being nice and thanking him for the job he is performing.

No harm done...if anything, maybe it will make a person feel a little better that day.

So leaving a tip assuages your guilt over the fact that you probably make more money than him?

If anything I'd give them a tip, case of beer, diamond before they get started, maybe he/she will watch the subs and the subs-subs that much closer, LOL.

Do you tip the maid of your hotel room after your stay? Kind of the same thing as tipping the car guy, I think. I am not rich. But, most service people get minimum wage and count on tips to live on. As far as the construction guy if he served you well I see no reason not to give a card with $50 or $100 bucks inside for a job well done. It would be money well spent in my opinion to have a home with no issues because he did a good job.

I'm interested in how you can take such a simple statement and make that sort of quantum leap into it's meaning.

Maybe so, but you're most likely attempting to be confrontational.
