My wife and I are in Indian Trail, but are looking at moving to Gaston County in the next 6 months or so. The commute to both our jobs would be much better if living in Gaston. Plus, Union County feels like New York of the South..Just kidding! We are focusing on Belmont/Mt Holly, but it appears taxes are much higher in Gaston than Union. We are looking for newer 4-5BR with about 2300 SQ FT. I guess our price range is around $200-225. Any support is appreciated!

Belmont and Mt Holly are nice towns often overlooked in this area.

Property tax rates link

Gaston .8350
Union .6650

I think sales tax is the same 7.75%

Having lived in both Belmont and Mt. Holly....I would recommend Mt. Holly by far.

Belmont is seeing an increase in crime and that is concerning.

Being so close to West Charlotte, I can see how crime can overflow into those areas. I just cant stand the commute down 485 at night. I also have no interest in moving anyplace else in Union County. I am not enthrolled about Western Union County. Indian Trail seems to be the best fit for us, but I do think it is a little far out of Charlotte proper. Gaston County just seems like it has potential for us...

What area do you work in. My husband commutes to Gastonia from Lincoln County and it takes about 30 minutes.
