You know I was thinking the same thing man. That statement was so wrong the other person posted and If im not mistaken there are still 2 buildings under constructtion in buckhead Ritz Carlton Residence and Phipps Tower. The alliance tower just was completed a couple of months ago along with The Atlantic Condos in Atlantic station oh yeah 12th and Midtown With Loews Hotel is under construction as well.

i agree that charlotte should focus more on building itself but it should worry less about trying to be the next ______ (and yes, this includes Portland). Charlotte needs its own identity.

i like how you added the ego part to NYC (and other major cities), as if we build skyscrapers to satisfy our egos. please. thats the problem with people that aren't familiar with the "ny mentality." they don't understand that its about business first. we don't care about ego nearly as much as we care about business and money. there is a purpose for each super tall in manhattan. they generate money. ego is very secondary.

we are very proud of our city for a reason. our city should be (and has been) a blueprint for many, including yours.
Hope you realize that the captains of industry in New York traditionally came from other places? Your "NY" mentality is a mentality devised from the accomplishments of industrialists and movers mostly from largely outside the city. In reference to the purpose of "super tall" in Manhattan is the space factor. It was largely outsiders that made New York great, it, just like most other cities. Did you know the the Empire State Building was modeled after a building in Winston Salem? Just a little free trivia.

Have to admit that I'm kind of glad it's not happening. Trump does not impress me. He is someone who tries to come off as a real estate genius, but the best he has done so far is not lose ALL of his inherited holdings.

If his accomplishments matched his ego, I'd be happy to see the Trump name on the tower in Charlotte. But, this plan is going the way of Trump Baja Resort, the eastside NY development, Trump Air, etc. Even the Trump casinos are bouncing in and out of bankruptcy. This guy should be selling used cars somewheres.

No surprise here. Trump units are luxury residences marketed to the affluent. In White Plains, NY, a 2 bedroom unit starts in the $700,000 - 750,000 range. Of course the prices would likely be less in Charlotte but still very expensive. A realtor who was renting some of the White Plains units a couple years ago for $15,000 plus per month told me her clients were mostly bankers.....enough said.

He comes off as extremely abrasive and ruthless, but if you truly believe what you just wrote, then you don't know what he's accomplished his whole life and how much wealth he's built up. I suggest reading some of the many books written by and about him (starting w/The Art of the Deal). Its really fascinating whether you love him or hate him.

Yep you hit the mark on the head. I still remember him buying the Eastern Airlines Shuttle, renaming it the Trump Shuttle, and then having to give it up because he botched his finances so badly.
