Are there any other express Japanese restaurants around the area? I only know of Tokyo Express in the Bilo plaza near Ballantyne. I'm looking for the type of place where it's made quickly and you can get it to-go like Sake Express in Rock Hill, not a sit down place like Nakato. I actually live in Fort Mill, so looking for something in South Charlotte or closer...gotta get my teryaki chicken and rice fix.

I know of Wasabi Express in Indian Trail. That'd pretty far from you though. It is the only one that I know off the top of my head because it is out here where I live.

There's a place in Matthews across from the Sardis WalMart that's pretty good. There's also a place in Toringdon.

The one near Wal-Mart is called Shiki. I've only ever eaten in there, so I didn't think about it being an express takeout place.

Mai Express is open at the corner of S. Tryon and Ayrsley Town Blvd. Just about 1/8 mi from the S. Tryon exit off 485.

do NOT go to the Mai restaurant in Arsley. I can't believe the health department hasn't shut them down yet. We went once, and watched the guy cooking our food handle raw meat with his bare hands and never washed them. They had no rating posted, and the place is almost always deserted. Stay far away.

That being said, there are no good take out hibachi places here! I have heard there is one on Westinghouse, but have not tried it yet. Red Bowl in Tega Cay has awesome teriyaki, and it comes with the seafood (mayo) sauce like the hibachi places. You can get it to go - that might be your best bet!

The japanese restaurant that used to be in that space was temporarily closed by the health dept. I wonder if it's the same owners? If you are ever in Gaston county there are two Sake Expresses. One in Gastonia and one in Mount Holly. Delicious!

New Zealand is great, and very affordable. Fried rice is pretty awful though, so I tend to go for the steamed. It's in Matthews, at the corner of Old Monroe/Sardis.
