Here are our specifics:
  • We don't have a specific city picked out so were open to all areas!
  • Looking for a neighborhood, close to parks, lots of families, etc.
  • Close to a hospital (20 minutes max) for my job
  • Decent sized lots, nothing huge but we're not looking at homes where our house is practically on top of our neighbors'
  • Good schools
  • Price up to 250,000
Thank you so much!

They are asking for opinions on areas and already stated their price range.

To the original poster. The Matthews area might work well for you. There are several options available that might fit what your looking for and all of them are within 20 minutes of Presbytarian Hospital in Matthews.

That price range will work in alot of areas and I mean alot. Maybe you can go to realtor.com and there is a calculator that will take your desired neighborhood you like near where you are now and find something similar here for you.

There are a lot of hospitals as well but the two main ones are Carolina Medical and Presbyterian. (norvant)

Which hospital will be a huge determining factor, as well. You won't want to live in Matthews if you're working at the hospital near N. Tryon and I-85. Conversely you wouldn't want to live in University City if you were working at the Presby hospital off of 51 near I-485.

Sorry I didn't see it in the thread.

Matthews is 8 miles from Uptown and there is a hospital right off of 51. I actually live off of Sardis Road in Matthews. Many neighborhoods and houses to choose from in this area.

FYI JustLucky - In addition to Charlotte there are hospitals in Pineville, Concord, Huntersville, Gastonia and Moorseville.

I also think Matthews or Mint Hill is a good fit for your price range, proximity to a hospital and house criteria. There are lots of established neighborhoods there and the houses tend to be further away from each other. I don't think any point in Matthews is 20 minutes away from the hospital and there are lots of houses in your price range. There are parks around and supposedly the schools are good (I don't have kids, no I have no first hand knowledge). In my neighborhood, we are one of the few childless couples.

Any specific neighborhood recommendations? Any with a lot of trees?

There are really just so many it would be hard to name them all!

Why not go ahead and contact one of the realtors here to ask for a welcome package - tell them you want info on Matthews and Mint Hill and they can send you all kinds of stuff to pour over (and that would be at no obligation, don't think you HAVE to hire a realtor just to get some basic info )
