I'm looking for a large Mexican grocery store / supermarket in Charlotte similar to the Asian market at Sugar Creek & Tryon. Any leads?

Compare Foods there at Sugar Creek and Tryon isn't specifically Mexican, but has a lot of Hispanic foods.

I agree, Compare is where you want to go. I've been to the one on South Blvd near the Arrowood LRT station and it seems like going to another country. Ironically it is built in a former Winn Dixie which is what the corner supermarket used to be in the Asian Mall.

If you go to Compare on Independence you can also check out

La Bella Estrella
5606 E Independence Blvd # 106
Charlotte, NC 28212-0530

I don't know how large it is. I could swear there is also one near Independence and Sharon Amity as well. At the least there is a panaderia there in the same strip mall as Las Magritas.

Las Magaritas
4426 E Independence Blvd, Charlotte, NC‎
(704) 567-2359‎

Also, you might try calling LM and asking if they know of any large ones in the area.

Compare foods is about the largest I have shopped at. One word of caution from my personal experience at the Compare Foods on east Independence is to be VERY VERY careful using a credit/debit card. Our card was "compromised" and the account number stolen after a transaction there. We had to go back to the store and deal with our bank to get the charges made to our account removed. Evidently there is a security problem.....other than that they have allot of imported foods which are very good.

There is a hispanic/latino supermarket near Walmart on Eastway Drive. The location of that Walmart is on the corner of Central Ave. and Eastway Drive. Walmart is further in Eastway Drive. Not as much produce as Compare Foods but has similar products.
