Hello there. My name is Jenae annd there is a possibility my family will be moving to Lincolnton. My hubby is candidating for senior pastor positions all over the U.S. and one of the churches on the list of possibilities is in Lincolnton. I am trying to get a glimpse of what the area is like and see what's in store for us if God brings us to this area. We are a homeschooling family with 5 little children ages 1-8. We love rural/foothills and Lord-willing will need quite a large home, seeing that we are not done adding little ones to the bunch. We fost-adopt where we are here and have adopted one allready. Hope to do this wherever we relocate. Here are a few questions/concerns:
1. What areas are rural?
2. What areas are within a 20 min. drive from Lincolnton (in any direction, but love mountains/foothills/snow) I'm trying to figure out what areas I can look for home prices in, for example on Craigslist- Names of any and all towns/cities would be greatly appreciated.
3. Is it possible to have a big home (5bd +2 1/2 bth+3000+sq.ft.+wrap-around deck, for ex., farmhouse, colonial, brick style) with low pymts? Not sure whether renting or buying.
4. Any big beautiful red barns? Places for small animals, esp. chickens, goats- out-buildings?
5. Would love to be within 30min. of shopping/malls/costco/walmart-type stores
6. Other option, depending on cost would be spread-out neighborhoods with community pool/parks/gym with huge fenced (1-2 acres) yard- nicer homes??? clean, vaulted clgs., open floor plan, cat walks, brick-front/colonial, farmhouse, chefs kitchen, finished basement? Do not perfer close neighbors (love neighbors, just not the closeness of the structures)- like room for kids to play(my 3 boys are used to 5 acres of dirt and pasture and rocks and trees galore to run around on with chickens, geese and ducks)
7. What is the feel of Lincolnton? Historical? friendly? small-town?
8. Does it snow?? How close to mountains/skiing?Beach?Lakes?waterskiing?
9. What is the weather like?
10. Are things there green or brown? trees? beautiful or drab? I can't find any pictures of Lincolnton. It's hard to envision living there when all I see in my mind is a blank picture.
I know this sounds like a lot, and let me assure that this is a dream-list of things from a mommy and wife who envisions the best for the first relocation her family has ever enbarked upon. I know that God has the perfect home in store for us. Whoever spends the time reading this and responds, I truly thank you for taking the time. I know it's a long post.
Thanks!

I'm not positive what you want as far as real estate. I've known a lot of pastors & usually either the church provides a home or the pastor lives in close proximity to the church, in the same town as the church, to be available to the parishioners.
You don't say where you are currently, so it's rather difficult to describe the area. For instance if you are currently in New England, historical would mean something very different than if you live in Nebraska.
You asked if it's green or brown. Are you refering to seasonal changes? You asked if there are trees. Yes. Also yes it snows here.
North Carolina has specific laws regarding livestock. Are you planning on keeping livestock?
Lincoln county, overall, would be considered basically rural. Lots of hardwood trees, rolling hills. You will be within an hour of the mountains and yes, there is skiing there, but on a much more limited scale than one would find in New England, for example.
It all depends on where you will be as to farm animals and restrictions on what you can raise on your property. There are farms of various sizes and types in Lincoln county.
The best way to find property may not be to look on Craig's list. I would personally recommend that you work with a realtor to find what you may be interested in. Some real estate agencies do rentals, as well.
I agree...OP, you should definately check out Vale.
I concur. If you want possible views of the mountains in the background
then Vale is the city. It rural living at its finiest.
My pookie is from there and if your looking for a town that has land this place to look.
It only 15-20 to downtown Lincolnton and Lincolton will provide your life needs,
I like Lincolton because it hasn't been scared from Charlotte growth
Thank you everyone. I am from foothills in a rural area in Northern California. I've never heard of restrictions on livestock. That's really hard for me understand that- everyone around here has livestock and our county fair is a huge part of them community come summer-time. 4H and all that. We would love to have goats, sheep, a horse or two and maybe one milk cow plus chickens and the usual dog and cats. Do you think this would be a problem? Thanks again.

I think by "restrictions" they mean that if you're in the city, you wouldn't be allowed to have a farm in your backyard...., but in the country, such as the western side of Lincoln County (Vale), you'd have plenty of land available for animals and whatnot.
