I need help!!! My wife and I are planning on relocating from Fayetteville to Charlotte by next summer. We know very little about Clt. My work experience since separating from the Army is limited to warehouse/distribution type jobs. Can anyone please give advice about landing a job before we move. Allso my wife is a substitute teacher. Any and all help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you!!

Hi there...don't mean to be a downer....but the unemployment rate here in Charlotte is at 12%....Jobs here are not that plentiful. I wish you luck in "securing' employment before you arrive...You'll need it.

thank you, i dont think youre being a downer. Im realistic and ive been reading forums and blogs on Charlotte all day. Alot of people are saying the same thing. But my wife really want to move there. We currently live in Fayetteville and Im sure the job situation is worse here than Clt. Thanks for the reply. If you hear of anything that may be useful, please let me know. Thanks.

I believe Harris Teeter has a distribution center in Indian Trail. Perhaps you could try to look there for a job?

There are a number of large distribution centers in this area. Off the top of my head I can think of Ross Stores, Target, TJ Maxx, Sysco ....
Also, search this forum ... there have been postings previously about our area's distribution centers.

have you tried using the website Job Search | one search. all jobs. Indeed ? Or something at Carolinas Medical Center, they are a large employer in the area. I know employment is tough right now, I know a couple of people looking in a variety of fields and having a hard time. Good Luck!

I agree, Fayetteville, because of the military, has done much better with the recession, housing prices have remained stable and have even gone up a bit, because people have kept their jobs.
Substitute teaching is NOT a great thing to be in now. I signed up last winter to sub, along with about 50 other people on just the orientation day I went to. At least in Union County (don't know about Char-Meck) they have stopped taking new sub applicants, they have so many. There has not been a lot of sub work, and I mean very little....I'm talking about 2 weeks of work in the 12 mos (ok, 9 mos when you minus summer) I've been subbing.
